Charles Frechon
(1856 – 1929)

Born at Blangy-sur-Bresle where his father was a manufacturer, Frechon studied at Amiens and later in Rouen and following the courses of the Academy of Painting and Drawing.

Frechon became friends with Angrand, Delattre and Lemaître.

After his military service, he went to Paris and worked at the free atelier of Colarossi, where artists like Puvis de Chavannes and Raphaël Collin offered their teaching.

Frechon returned to Rouen, producing canvases of the Normandy landscape each season. Soon after his return, he joins the pointillist movement and creates remarkable works. However, Frechon finds this technique slows down his spontaneity and, like Pissarro, he returns to the impressionist style, but is enriched by this period.

From 1890 to 1900, split his time between exhibiting at the Parisian galleries and Rouen exhibitions. The great art-merchant Durand-Ruel purchased a few of his works.
